Variety of programs and activities

at library locations announced

STEUBENVILLE — The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County has announced the following programs and activities being held at various locations, including:

Adena Branch, (740) 546-3782

Adults: Make a craft at 5 p.m. Monday. Register and find out what’s being made by calling the library.

Meet, eat and discuss recipes at the Cookbook Club on Nov. 30, beginning at 5 p.m. Register to participate.

Children: Babygarten, for parents with children birth to 2, will be held at 11:15 a.m. Nov. 30. Books, songs, and rhymes are shared along with early literacy tips.

Brilliant Branch, (740) 598-4028

Children: Play and Learn the Alphabet, for parents with children ages 2-6, will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 28. This is a one-hour program that uses letter-learning toys to promote early literacy skills.

Adults: Book Club will meet for discussion at 6 p.m. Monday. Call to join.

Dillonvale-Mount Pleasant Branch, (740) 769-2090

Adults: Color pages designed especially for adults on Nov. 28 at 5 p.m.

Schiappa Branch, (740) 264-6166

Adults: Book Club for Schiappa Branch will meet for discussion on Nov. 28 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the book, “The Second Mrs. Hockaday” by Susan Rivers. Rivers will join the discussion live via Internet skype. Call to join.

The main library’s book club will meet at the Schiappa branch on Nov. 29, beginning at 1 p.m. Call to join.

Visit for tech help to download eBooks, magazines and more from the library’s website to electronic devices from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 29. Call for a 15-minute appointment.

Children: Franciscan University of Steubenville and the library will host the first Big Book Showcase on Nov. 29 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Education students from the university’s content area reading class will display the creative Big Books they designed to connect literacy concepts to the subject areas they hope to someday teach. Stop in to view the Big Books, enjoy refreshments, enter for door prize drawings and support the future teachers, a library spokesperson encouraged.

Play and Learn the Alphabet will be held at 10:30 a.m. and at 6 p.m. Nov. 29.

Babygarten will be held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 30.

Adults: Thriller Book Club will meet for discussion on Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. Call to register.

Family Resource Network plans

Paint ‘n’ Punch fundraiser Dec. 2

WEIRTON — The Brooke-Hancock Family Resource Network will hold a Paint ‘n’ Punch, a non-alcoholic fundraiser in which participants may enjoy refreshments while producing a winter-themed painting under the direction of Deborah Ross Smith, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 2.

The cost is $35, which includes painting supplies. Reservations should be made by calling (304) 748-7850 no later than Monday.

Brooke Hills Park to hold brunch

with Santa, light-up on Dec. 2

WELLSBURG — Brooke Hills Park will hold its annual Brunch with Santa on Dec. 2 at the park’s clubhouse. Children in fourth grade and under may eat with Santa at 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. The cost is $5, and reservations should be made no later than Saturday by calling (304) 737-1236. The park also will be holding its lightup at 6 p.m. that day. The free event will include coffee and cookies.
