WINTERSVILLE — The Brilliant Lions Club served as host of the Lions Club Zone 8 meeting held recently at Zalenski’s Family Eatery and Pub in Wintersville.

Zone 8 Chairman Terry Snyder welcomed those attending. The invocation was given by Mingo Lions Club President Bill Snyder, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Brilliant Lions Club President Ralph Nickoson.

Several guests were introduced, including past District Gov. Steve Thornton and Lion Becky Thornton, district committee chair for diabetes awareness. Snyder noted Steve Thornton, who is running for international director, has the endorsement of his club and the District OH-3 Cabinet. He will be seeking full endorsement at the district convention, then at the state convention.

Steve Thornton discussed the USA Canada Forum which will be held in Columbus in 2018. There will be a need for 400 to 700 volunteers to assist. He outlined the various jobs that need to be filled. Becky Thornton discussed diabetes, which she said is a major cause of blindness in adults.

Bill Snyder gave an Alert report, discussing the emergency relief team. He is the district chair.

Clubs attending were Brilliant, Mingo Junction, Richmond and Toronto. Each gave a report on club activities.

Terry Snyder shared information from the cabinet meeting held Nov. 19.

It was announced that the district convention will be held April 27-29 in Canton.

Two clubs in the zone received centennial service banner patches — Brilliant and Mingo Junction. Many club members have received chevrons for their service, it was noted.

The next zone meeting will be held in March with the Toronto Lions Club volunteering to host.

Mingo Lion Dr. William Johns won the drawing.
