Shriners to hold fundraiser

pancake breakfast Saturday

WEIRTON — The Northern Panhandle Shrine Club will be the site of a Weirton Shriners pancake breakfast, which will be held from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. The club is located at the end of Cove Road by the state highway garage. The menu will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee and orange juice. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12. Children younger than 6 eat for free.

Gathering Place Coffee Shop January events detailed

BURGETTSTOWN — The Gathering Place Coffee Shop at Paris Presbyterian Church, 127 Steubenville Pike, Paris (Burgettstown), has announced a number of events being held there this month, including:

— Color Me Calm, an opportunity for adults to relax and color, will be held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 23.

— A free movie event featuring “Miracles from Heaven” will be held Monday, beginning at noon. Popcorn will be provided. Another free movie event will be held at noon on Jan. 22, featuring “UnPlugged.”

— An evening of music with Julie Nickell will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 26.

— Bingo for fun will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 29. Coffee, ice tea and a bagged snack will be provided. A small prize will be awarded for each bingo winner.

— Lunch with Andy Sykes, an elder law attorney, will be held at noon on Jan. 31. Sykes will be sharing information on elder law and hold a question-and-answer time.

Free tax advice sessions

being offered at library

STEUBENVILLE — The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will have a representative from H&R Block visiting library branches to offer free tax advice and answer tax questions.

Dates and locations for the service include: Jan. 23, 1-3 p.m., Toronto Branch; Jan. 24, 10 a.m. to noon, Schiappa Branch, and 2-4 p.m., Tiltonsville Branch; Jan. 25, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Brilliant Branch, and 3-5 p.m., Dillonvale-Mount Pleasant Branch; and Jan. 26, Adena Branch, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Adults: Meet, eat and discuss recipes for the Cookbook Club at 5 p.m. on Jan. 23. Call to join.

Children: Babygarten, for parents with children birth to 2, will be held Jan. 25, beginning at 11:15 a.m. Introduce children to the library at this lap-sit program that shares books, songs and early literacy tips. No registration is required.

Story Time, for children ages 5-10, will be held at 11:15 a.m. Jan. 22. Children will enjoy books, songs and an art activity. Register in advance.

Make a craft on Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required by calling the library.

Fundraiser dinner Sunday for Agape food pantry building

STEUBENVILLE — The Agape Homeless Shelter Food Pantry monthly dinner fundraiser will be held Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. at the Agape Assembly Dining Hall, located at 525 Slack St.

The cost of the dinner is a $12 donation. For advance tickets call (740) 424-1152. Proceeds will go toward the building of its distribution/warehouse center for the food pantry that provides food weekly for about 130, according to Mother Roberta Jordan.

WEIRTON — The Weirton Steel Management Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Giovanni’s Restaurant. All members and guests are invited to the dinner and social time.

‘Lego’ movie at Weirton library

WEIRTON — The Mary H. Weir Public Library will show the PG-rated “The Lego Ninjago Movie” on Jan. 20, beginning at 1 p.m. in the library’s activity room located at 3442 Main St. A family-friendly Lego build will follow the movie. Admission to this event is free along with popcorn. Patrons who would like to bring their own soft drinks or snacks are welcome to do so. The handicapped-accessible doors on Walnut Street will open at 12:45 p.m.

Group reschedules meeting

RICHMOND — Because of inclement weather, the Richmond Community Historical Society canceled its meeting set for Tuesday and has rescheduled it for Feb. 6. It will be held at the Crew House Museum on Main Street, beginning at 7 p.m.

VISTA proposals are being accepted

The AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America program is accepting proposals from public and private nonprofit groups for the use of VISTA workers in local endeavors focused on helping those in poverty in such areas as drug abuse and other health issues, education, veterans and their families, the environment and disaster services.

Brooke Library to show drama about Thurgood Marshall

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will show the PG-13 rated film, “Marshall” at noon on Jan. 26.

The film is about Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court justice.
