STEUBENVILLE — Members of the Kiwanis Club of Steubenville have begun planning for their eighth-annual trivia night competition.

Specifics were reviewed at the club’s first meeting of the new year held Jan. 2 at the YWCA of Steubenville.

The yearly fundraiser, chaired by Tom Timmons, club secretary-treasurer, will be held March 10 in the Commons at Steubenville High School, beginning at 7 p.m. It offers participants an opportunity to “test your knowledge and join us for this fun, fast-paced trivia competition.”

The club is looking to recruit teams interested in participating — returning teams and new ones.

The entry fee is $120 per team for up to 10 people on a team with the fee including 10 mulligans. Teams will compete for cash prizes — first place, $500; second pace, $250; and third place, $100 — and bragging rights at the fundraiser that also will include a Chinese auction and a 50-50 drawing. Teams may bring their own snacks.

Sue Busler, Timmons’ sister, will return to serve as event emcee. Busler hails from Maryville, Ill., just outside St. Louis, and brought the idea for such a fundraiser to the area through her brother.

To sign up, contact Tom Timmons by phone at (740) 314-9574 or by e-mail at timmons@wesbanco.com. Proceeds help fund community projects.

President Aimee Livingston presided at the recent meeting. Mike Emmerling is serving as program chair for January with Tuesday’s speaker to be a representatives of the West Virginia penitentiary — “Where History Meets Mystery.”

Kiwanian Larry Coleman offered insight on attendance at this year’s installment of the Steubenville Nutcracker Village and Advent Market, noting the event attracted 35,000 to 40,000 visitors during December, compared to 20,000 last year. He said the chalet vendors “did really well.” There were 150 nutcrackers on display, and there are orders for 200 additional ones.

Sunday is the last day to visit the attraction at Historic Fort Steuben.
