Awaiting the Ag Baby

-- Contributed

Joyce Wetherell, a member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau Promotion and Education committee, displays a nursery-print scrapbook she made for the Ag Baby of 2018, the first born child at Trinity West Medical Center during the week of March 18-24. This is designated as National Agricultural Week, a time when the organization presents a gift basket of baby items and some gifts for the parents. Jeanne Roberts is chairman of the P&E group and makes a coordinated, diaper holder, a changing pad and bib. Other members donate baby necessities as well. The organization also goes into Jefferson County schools and reads to the second-grade classes. This year, the book, “John Deere — That’s Who” is donated to the school library and given to the parents of the AG baby. It is an American Farm Bureau Book of the Year and tells the story of John Deere, who although noted for his green and yellow tractors, first invented plow shares for turning the soil for planting.
