Baked steak dinner fundraiser
is Saturday in Unionport
UNIONPORT — A fundraiser baked steak dinner with all the trimmings will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Wayne Township Community Center, the site of the old Unionport school.
The cost is $10. Patrons can dine in for get take-out by calling (740) 944-1492.
Proceeds will benefit the current expenses of the community center.
Pasta dinner to benefit local woman battling cancer
FOLLANSBEE — A spaghetti dinner to benefit Shirley Seymour, a local woman battling cancer, will be held from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. April 27 at the Follansbee Community House.
Seymour owned and operated Ye Olde Farmhouse Crafts in Wellsburg until her health led her to close. She also owned and cooked in diners in Ohio, Belmont and Marshall counties.
The cost is $5 for children 10 and under and $10 for all others. There will be a silent auction, 50-50 drawing and disc jockey.
Annual spring quilt show
kicking off on Monday
STEUBENVILLE — The annual spring quilt show will open on Monday in the Visitor Center of Historic Fort Steuben at 120 S. Third St. and continue through April 26.
The show hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
There will be 34 colorful pieces on display from the tri-county area. Some of the quilts were made as recently as February while others date back to the 1950s and 1960s. The variety of patterns and fabrics and quilting designs make each piece unique, according to a spokesperson.
A program on vintage sewing machines will be presented by Marlies Brandt from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 21. Brandt is well-known in quilting circles and will bring a variety of machines to practice on along with information.

T-shirt sale to benefit Brooke
Sheriff’s Department K9 unit
WELLSBURG — T-shirts in various sizes are being sold to raise funds for the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department’s K9 unit.
Orders, with payment, will be accepted until April 30.

The K9 unit recently received a boost from K9s of Valor, a Texas-based non-profit group that provided Narcan and trauma kits that may be used for K9 Dakota in the event she would be exposed to a narcotic or injured on the job.
St. Paul’s organizing annual
wine-tasting for April 21
WEIRTON — St. Paul’s annual wine tasting, sponsored by “Holy Name Society,” will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on April 21 at St. Paul School Cafeteria, Walnut Street.
Cost is $15 per person for the event that will include food, drawings and a Chinese auction.
Patrons must be 21 to attend.
Sportsmen club invites youth to fishing contest Saturday
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Sportsmen Club on McAdoo Ridge will again hold a fishing contest for youth 14 and under.
It will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and include a free lunch and prizes for all children and trophies for the biggest fish caught by a boy and girl. The club will stock its fishing pond with 14 to 20 inch trout for the occasion.
Last year more than 100 children participated.

Coloring group for adults to meet at Brooke County Library
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library has added a coloring club for adults who enjoy coloring for relaxation.
Anyone may take part from 10:30 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. April 19.
