CADIZ WOMEN’S GOLF LEAGUE

Opening day for the new Cadiz Women’s Golf League was held April 25. Because of the inclement weather, a nine-hole game of “Total Score minus Putts” was played.

Winners were: First place, Roberta Cireddu; second, Lori Szymanek; and third, Tracy Amos. In a tie for least putts was Szymanek and Amos, closely followed by Bonnie Beetham.

A social hour and dinner followed, then a business meeting chaired by Brenda Hartley, who welcomed all the new members.

Kathy Smith drew for the table decorations prizes which were won by Nep Rowland, Judy Crawshaw, Jane Galigher, Carol Lepit, Angie Sapon and Billie Stanwick. The special grab bag was won by Ginny Ferrell.

The play of the day Wednesday will be a scramble, with several skill hole prizes to be awarded.

STEUBENVILLE COUNTRY CLUB

The Steubenville Country Club Women’s Golf Association opened its 2018 season on April 25 with a business meeting and luncheon in the clubhouse grill room. The golf event for the day was canceled due to inclement weather.

Chairperson Pam DiDomenico welcomed golfers to the new season and distributed golf schedules that outlined the events and hostess assignments for each month. Officers’ reports were given by Theresa Metcalf, secretary, and Dianna Adams, treasurer.

Pennie Scarpone was introduced and welcomed as a new member of the golf association.

Golf professional John Denholm was a guest for the meeting and he outlined the guidelines for posting scores after each round of golf.

Committee chairpersons for the golf season are: YangJa Koh, hole-in-one; Paula Hope and Kim Criss, ringers and birdies; DiDomenico, Criss and Shelle Pentes, awards; Denholm, junior golf; Marilyn Kenny, Adams and Metcalf, CDI tournament; Kenny and Adams, East Central; Denholm and Criss, Ryder Cup; Metcalf, publicity; DiDomenico and Pentes, nominating; and Denholm and Kenny, rules.

The President’s Cup Tournament is scheduled for two Wednesdays in May and two Wednesdays in June. The winner will be the golfer with the best three-out-of-four net scores. The club championship will be played on Aug. 8 and Aug. 15.

On July 11 the women will play a tournament to benefit the Cancer Dietary Initiative with Kenny, Adams and Metcalf in charge. This marks the second year for this event.

The women golfers will again assist with the closest-to-the-pin competition for the Pabian Tournament and the Firecracker Tournament held by the men golfers. DiDomenico, Adams and Metcalf will work these events.

The Chili Open is scheduled for Sept. 5 with Kenny and Hope as co-chairmen. This is the second year for this invitational with women golfers from area clubs competing in a scramble format.

For May, the 18-hole golfers will report at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. start with Kenny and Adams as hostesses. Dotty Tegano is chairperson for the nine-hole group which will tee off after 10 a.m.
