Special Pentecost service
Sunday at Calvary Pentecostal
STEUBENVILLE — A special Pentecost Sunday service for the Upper Ohio Valley will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Pentecostal Church, located at 255 N. Fifth St, Steubenville.
“The service will include spirit-filled worship, special singing and anointed preaching as we gather together to celebrate and commemorate the Day of Pentecost as recorded in the Book of Acts, chapter 2,” notes Pastor John Kotsanos in a news release.
The guest speaker will be Bishop Ralph Tisdale of Parkersburg, W.Va., who is the senior pastor of Spreading the Truth Ministries. Tisdale also serves as the district superintendent of the West Virginia District of the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Strawberry festival June 8
at Bell Chapel UMC
STEUBENVILLE — Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, 3419 state Route 213, will hold its strawberry festival from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on June 8.
The festival will feature sandwiches, salads and “delicious treats of the season.” Cost is by donation.

St. Peter CWC discusses
bake sale, mum sale
STEUBENVILLE — The St. Peter Church Catholic Woman’s Club held its monthly meeting on May 1 with a covered-dish luncheon. President Bea Antol led the opening and closing prayers.
Antol also thanked the CWC members who helped with the 25th anniversary reception for the Rev. Timothy J. Huffman.
The group agreed to hold a bake sale in September with proceeds to benefit the seminarian fund. There also was discussion about holding a mum sale in September for the club.
Members were reminded about the pre-convention dinner on June 5 at Bella Hall and the convention on June 6 at Holy Family Church.
Thank-you cards were received from Huffman for the anniversary gift; “adopted” seminarians Joseph Hahn and Brandon O’Nan for Easter gifts; and Nicholas Ward for an Easter card.
The next scheduled meeting will be held at noon on Sept. 4 in the church hall.
Religious Values Committee
visits Weirton Geriatric Center
WEIRTON — The Religious Values Committee of the Weirton Woman’s Club visited the Weirton Geriatric Center for May.
Mary Ellen Groves led the residents in song. Pastor Philip Van Damm of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Weirton gave the sermon, discussing the Easter season.
Refreshments were served by Carla Glover, Carol Village and Groves. Residents received fashion scarves in honor of Mother’s Day.
The next visitation will be June 14 and include a Father’s Day celebration. There will be a guest minister.
Pentecost bonfire celebration
Sunday at Brentwood UMC
WINTERSVILLE — A Pentecost Sunday bonfire celebration will be held beginning at 6 p.m. on Sunday at Brentwood United Methodist Church, 148 Stephens St., as part of its Plugged In service.
The free event is open to the public. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Hot dogs and S’mores will be provided.
