WEIRTON — The Point Pleasant Ladies Aide met May 9 with 17 members and two guests attending, including featured speaker Janet Keller and Barbara Cover, president of the United Methodist Women’s group at Warwood United Methodist Church.

The fellowship room was decorated with yellow and blue accents and flower arrangements.

President Carolyn Allison presided and extended the welcome.

Program Chairman Nancy Wright introduced Keller, who portrayed Minnie Pearl, a days-gone-by country comedian. She donned a pinafore and a Minnie Pearl signature hat with the ever-present sales tag hanging from it. Keller entertained the members with stories told in the Minnie Pearl fashion.

Following the program, members participated in a hat parade to coincide with Minnie Pearl’s hat. Winners were: Roni Poling, funniest; Lisa Subrick, prettiest; and Kathleen McDonald, most unique. Keller won the evening’s prize by having a special sticker on her agenda.

Refreshments were served by hostesses Lora Bailey, Karen Randolph, Linda McNeil and Jessica Kefer.

During the business meeting, Lisa Subrick read “Brightly Shining” for the devotions, and Patty Bruce read the poem, “Allow Your Light to Shine,” and offered prayer.

Nancy Conkle read the minutes of the April meeting, and Carla Fryer presented the financial report.

Wright reported that the 2018 scholarship recipient would be announced at the Oak Glen High School awards program. It will be presented by Allison and member Ruth Fuller.

Betty Glenn gave a report on cards sent.

Allison explained the available fundraisers, and the members voted on which ones they wanted to participate in.

Under new business, members decided to have the August picnic meeting at Camp Aura and to ask Joyce Littell to cater the November dinner meeting.

Joys, concerns and comments were shared.

The next meeting will be held June 13. The quilt squares painted by the members and quilted by Judee Everly will be dedicated and hung in the fellowship room during this meeting, and members will celebrate birthdays.
