BRILLIANT — An officers installation dinner was held by the Brilliant Lions Club with Dave Porter named president

Ralph Nichoson, retiring president, presented the gavel to porter. Terry Snyder, Lions second vice governor, conducted the ceremony. Bill Snyder, Zone 8 governor and Mingo Lions Club member and president, also was a guest.

Nichoson reviewed spring projects that included planting flowers in the village; donating to the village Little League; hosting a successful tag day in the village and in New Alexandria; repairing bleachers at Buckeye North Elementary School stadium; spreading 10 feet of gravel for a village project; organizing a trip to see the Washington Wild Things baseball game; taking a tour of the Cardinal Plant; having a concession at the first summer concert held at the Buckeye North Elementary School football field; and working on playground equipment for the elementary school.

The death of Judith Brown, who was a top officer with the Brilliant American Legion and Auxiliary and many other village enterprises, was noted by Curt Creamer.

Lions Chevrons were presented to Tom Connell, secretary, and to Joe Matthews who has 30 years of service to the club.

It was noted by Terry Snyder that Steve Thornton was a nominee for international director, and the election is to be held in Las Vegas in July.

In a later meeting, with Porter presiding, Ford gave the invocation. It was announced that the Zone 8 picnic will be held June 27 with the Steubenville Lions Club serving as hosts. Members attending are to bring a covered dish.

Tickets are available for those who signed up for the Washington Wild Things baseball game.

A cake in celebration of Porter’s retirement was served at the dinner.

Door prize winners were Ford, Porter and Jim Holskey.
