Women’s golf news


Judy Crawshaw and Kathy Smith were hostesses for the Cadiz Women’s Golf League on June 6. Play of the day was low net.

Winners were: First low net, Carol Lepic; second low net, a tie between Kathy Smith and Tracy Amos; and third low net, Cathy Jones. The putt pot was split between Carol Lepic and Donna Griffin with 29 putts each.

Birdies were made by Lori DeFallo on hole No. 1 and Roberta Cereddu on holes No. 3 and 15. Chip-ins were accomplished by Glenda Sensel on hole No. 18, Judy Crawshaw on hole No. 7 and Ginny Ferrell on hole No. 18.

Hostesses for next Wednesday will be Roberta Cereddu and Tracy Amos, playing holes beginning with Ts and Fs, using one-half of a player’s handicap. Tee time is 9 a.m.


Thursday evening play June 14 began with a brief meeting led by President Mary Arehart reviewing final plans for the Happy Birthday Spring Hills Invitational on Aug. 2.

On June 14 the Steubenville Country Club Women’s Golf Association played a “Throw Out” event for its weekly game. Each golfer replaced one hole on each nine with par, and handicaps were used to determine the winners.

Marilyn Kenny placed first with a score of 71, and Dianna Adams took second place with a score of 72. Kenny also won putts with a total of 27. Chip-ins were recorded by Kenny and Paula Hope to claim the money cup with Hope carding a birdie on the 10th hole with her chip-in.

The fourth and final round of the President’s Cup was played. The winner will be announced at the closing day awards luncheon in September and will be the golfer with the best three out of four net scores.

Following golf the ladies had lunch downtown at the Greek Food Festival. Lena Scarpone, 5-year-old daughter of golf association member Pennie Scarpone, joined the group for lunch.

On June 20, a “Mutt and Jeff” game was played as the weekly event with Pam DiDomenico as hostess.

The four shortest holes and the five longest holes were counted for scoring, and one-half handicap was used to decide the winners.

Paula Hope took first place with Marilyn Kenny coming in second. DiDomenico won low putts, and Kenny recorded a birdie on the 17th hole. Shelle Pentes had a chip-in on the 13th hole to win the money cup.

In the nine-hole golf group, Dotty Tegano won low gross and putts with Charlene Freshwater taking low net.

This week’s game will be “Even Holes” with Theresa Metcalf and YangJa Koh as hostesses. Golfers will report at 8:30 a.m. for a 9 a.m. start.
