Community youth choir

participants being sought

STEUBENVILLE — Area youth from grades four to 12 are invited to be part of a gospel-singing community youth choir being organized at the Sycamore Youth and Community Center in Steubenville.

Registration for the choir will be conducted during Urban Mission Ministries’ annual Back-to-School Bash to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday in the area of its main office at 301 N. Fifth St.

The first choir rehearsal will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 18 at the Sycamore center at 301 N. Fourth St. Those interested in participating in the choir also can register at the rehearsal.

Rehearsals will be held from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday once school is in session.

Minister Darrin LaMarr Holt will serve as the minister of music with assistance from Barbara Wilson and Trey Jeter.

55th-annual peach festival

today at Weirton church

WEIRTON — The 55th-annual Peach Festival of St. Thomas Episcopal Church is under way from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.

The festival will feature pulled pork, roast beef and meatball sandwiches along with french fries and peach shortcake.

There also will be a bake sale including peach pies; a basket drawing with an overnight stay at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort; a book sale; crafters; a bluegrass band; and fresh produce. Patrons can dine in or get take-outs.

New addiction recovery

program launched at church

STEUBENVILLE — First Christian Church, Steubenville, located at 220 N. Fourth St., along with Richard Whitehair and the Open Door Baptist Church of Follansbee have partnered to begin a Bible-based nationwide addiction recovery program called Recovery Unanimous.

It is meeting every Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the First Christian Church fellowship hall. The program is free.

“This is a very successful program,” a church spokesperson noted. “Headquartered in Indianapolis, the group prints literature, trains leaders and provides support to each group and its leadership.”

‘Light of the World’ at Weirton

Event Center on Aug. 18

WEIRTON — The Weirton Alliance Church will hold its “Light of the World” event from noon to 4 p.m. on Aug. 18 at the Weirton Event Center.

The event for children in kindergarten through sixth grade will feature food, games and prizes, including bicycles, bicycle helmets and drones.

Finley UMC making plans

for annual block party

STEUBENVILLE — Finley United Methodist Church, located at 958 Lincoln Ave., will be holding its 22nd-annual block party from noon to 3 p.m. on Aug. 18.

There will be a giveaway of used household goods, clothing, toys and more, as well as food, games, live music and pony rides.

Peach festival is Aug. 18

at New Cumberland church

NEW CUMBERLAND — The Nessly Chapel United Methodist Church will hold its peach festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 18 at the church, located at 52 Nessly Road on state Route 2 north of New Cumberland.

The luncheon will cost $6, which includes a sandwich, choice of salad, baked beans, coleslaw, peach shortcake and beverage.

Peach pies and peach desserts also will be on sale.

‘Together’ programming

to begin Sept. 5 in Weirton

WEIRTON — Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church will launch a new program called “Together” beginning Sept. 5 and continuing through the last week that public school is in session.

There will be dinner and programming for all ages as the all teaching programming unfolds at the new Weirton Christian Center, located next to the church at 121 Ivy St.

There will be programming for all ages from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. — kindergarten through fourth grade; fifth through eighth grade; youth, ninth through 12th grade; and adults, 18 and up.

Dinner will be served in the church fellowship hall from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Food will be offered anytime during this hour.

Reservations are strongly encouraged, but walk-ins are welcomed. The dinner cost will be $2 per person with a $10 maximum per family.
