Veterans satellite office open Wednesday in Dillonvale
STEUBENVILLE — The satellite office of the Jefferson County Veterans Service Commission will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the Dillonvale City Building, 135 School St., Dillonvale, to assist veterans, dependents of veterans and/or veterans’ widows with Veterans Administration pensions, compensations, burials, schooling, medical assistance and other veteran benefits.
For information or assistance, call the Veterans Service Office at (740) 283-8571 or visit the office in Suite 310, 500 Market St., Steubenville. The office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. It is closed every Wednesday afternoon to the public.
Computer safety tips offered through series of classes
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library and Internet Essentials by Comcast will team to present a series of free hour-long classes aimed at helping new computer users to navigate basic use, social media and electronic devices.
The first will cover cookies, malware, antivirus and other issues affecting safe computer use at 9 a.m. Sept. 14.
It will be followed by another, at 9 a.m. Sept. 21, covering social media and how it can help draw family members and old friends closer together.
A third will cover Kindles, Overdrive and other ways to use the Internet to read on the go at 5 p.m. Sept. 28. Those interested should register by calling (304) 737-1551.
Jewett VFD to host fundraiser
lasagna dinner on Sunday
JEWETT — The Jewett Volunteer Fire Department will host a homemade baked lasagna dinner fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
The menu includes salad, bread, dessert and beverage. The cost for an adult meal is $10 and $6 for children.
September outreach events
at Wellsburg Presbyterian
WELLSBURG — First Presbyterian Church of Wellsburg at 901 Charles St. has announced three outreach events on its September calendar that are free and open to the public.
On Sept. 9 there will be a grand piano concert given by Roberta Fedoush, beginning at 3 p.m.
On Sept. 16, beginning at 2 p.m., there will a CPR and first aid class offered. It is free for anyone to attend and participate in, but for those wanting to be certified, there will be a $5 fee. The class will be instructed by Carol Cipoletti.
On Sept. 20, there will be a free community dinner from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The menu will include fried chicken and side dishes.
Antonio Meucci Lodge
holds annual picnic
FOLLANSBEE — The Antonio Meucci Lodge No. 2506 met Aug. 14 at Follansbee Memorial Park for its annual picnic.
The shelter was decorated in red, white and green with miniature Italian flags. Vice President Tony LaRosa led the invocation before the picnic luncheon began.
President Regina Truax introduced guests, including Albert Veltri, Vinney Rossi and John and Donna Balzano. Truax reminded the members about the upcoming dinner-dance to be held from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Undo’s in Weirton. Music will be provided by Light Touch. Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased from Truax or any club member.
Several bus tours were announced, including: Sept. 19-21, Seneca Niagara Casino, Niagara Falls, N.Y.; Oct. 13, Rock and Roll Doo Wop, Capital Theater, Wheeling; Oct. 14-17, New York City and Atlantic City; and Nov. 30, Motown Christmas Show, Capital Theater, Wheeling. The 50/50 was won by Carl Truax. Door prizes were won by Gabe Arlia, Beverly DiBiase, Barb Purks, Vinney Rossi and Angie Veltri. Members and guests also played bingo.
The next meeting will be held Sept. 11 at Undo’s in Weirton. Anyone interested in joining or wanting information can contact Truax or any club member.
Rush Run Community Chapel
to hold revival services
RAYLAND — Rush Run Community Chapel, 1983 county Road 17, Rayland, will hold revival services on Sept. 14 and 15, beginning at 6 p.m.
The speaker will be Pastor Gary Phillips.
