Assault: A Steubenville man said a man came out of a wooded area near county Road 60 in Springfield early Saturday and struck him in the face with a baseball bat. The man was treated at Trinity Medical Center West for facial contusions and a fracture to the eye socket.

Theft: A handgun, two magazine clips, chop saw, air mattress, two chain saws and hunting boots were taken from a cabin on county Road 28 some time last week.

Theft: Cash and coins were taken from a safe and canister at a home on Overlook Drive in Island Creek Township between Wednesday and Friday.
