Brooke shooting death is probed
WELLSBURG – The Brooke County Sheriff’s Department is seeking information about an apparent homicide Tuesday at a Genteel Ridge home near McKinleyville.
Brooke County Sheriff Chuck Jackson confirmed Jason Pratz, 30, was found dead from a gunshot wound at his home at about 1:40 p.m.
“It’s being treated as a homicide investigation,” said Jackson, who said a possible motive and suspects weren’t known early today.
“We’re going to leave nothing unturned here. It’s tragic,” said Jackson, who had met Pratz and described him as a nice guy.
Jackson said he didn’t want to disclose details of the incident because it could affect the recollections of people who may come forward with information. He said other details may be released later today.
Anyone with information should call the sheriff’s department at (304) 527-1430 or (304) 737-3660.
Jackson confirmed Pratz was pronounced dead at the scene after area first-responders arrived. His body has been transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The Brooke County Ambulance Service and first-responder units from the McKinleyville and Bethany fire departments were dispatched to the scene.
