Mardi Gras Gala provides festive night

WEIRTON – Guests packed Williams Country Club Saturday night, decked out in beads, masks and festive wigs for the annual Mardi Gras Gala, presented by the Rotary Club of Weirton Heights.

This year’s gala will benefit Piece by Peace, a local non-profit which provides sensory rooms for those with conditions on the autism spectrum, as well as autism and other similar health concerns.

Piece by Peace, located at Krazy Bout Sportz on Weir Avenue in Weirton, currently has an “active” sensory room, providing various items to assist in the development of their sense of touch.

They are in the process of organizing a “quiet” room to help with sight, hearing and other related senses and skills.

Rotary Club of Weirton Heights President David Whalen welcomed everyone in attendance, and thanked them for their support, making particular note of those who had sponsored the gala.

“We couldn’t do this without your support,” Whalen said. “We’re truly, truly appreciative.”

Whalen also thanked Williams Country Club General Manager Tom Raymond and his staff for their work in helping to put the event together.

Live musical entertainment was provided by local group Legend, playing a variety of music from the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
