New Cumberland bank robbed

NEW CUMBERLAND – The Hancock County Savings Bank branch in New Cumberland was robbed Tuesday, and local law enforcement continue to search for the suspect.

Reports of the robbery came in just before noon, at which time the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and New Cumberland City police responded to the scene.

According to Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher, the suspect is a thin white male standing approximately 5-feet, 7-inches to 6-feet and believed to be in his mid-20s to early 40s wearing a dark baseball cap, a yellow T-shirt over a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans and gloves.

Fletcher said the subject entered the bank through the front door, presented a note to the cashier and took it with him before fleeing the scene on foot. The man was seen going down a side street and getting into a black four-door Chevrolet Cavalier or similar-type vehicle with a loud exhaust.

The suspect was last seen headed south on Black Horse Road where police believed he entered state Route 2 near the S-turn in New Cumberland.

“We’ve sent out the information on the individual and vehicle as well as surveillance footage to local agencies,” said Fletcher.

No further description of the subject, the vehicle or direction of travel is available.

Fletcher said there were no customers in the bank at the time of the incident and no one was injured.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding report it immediately to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office at (304) 564-3911.
