Student gets ‘thank you’ from Coast Guard

WEIRTON – Prior to the holidays, students at St. Joseph the Worker Grade School took part in a program to help brighten Christmas for the men and women serving to protect this nation.

Students, with the assistance of West Virginia Northern Community College, created and sent Christmas cards to U.S. servicemen and women stationed around the world.

“They did these cards and (the college) sent them,” teacher Karen Frankovitch explained.

One student, Liam White, part of the 3-year preschool program, recently received a response to his card, in the form of a large drawing, photo and “thank you” note from members of the U.S. Coast Guard stationed in Juneau, Alaska.

White’s card featured a drawing of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

“We all loved it so much that we hung it up in our watch room over the holidays,” the note from the Coast Guard unit reads.

In response, the Coast Guard members sent a drawing of their own, also featuring Rudolph, and signed by each of them.
