Free fair housing seminars planned
STEUBENVILLE -Officials with the Ohio Valley Fair Housing Center agreed Monday night to sponsor four free fair housing seminars in May.
Urban Projects Director Chris Petrossi said the seminars are open to the public to learn more about fair housing laws and how they apply to residents.
Petrossi said the first seminar is scheduled from 11 a.m. until noon on May 20 at the Smithfield Christian Church.
“This seminar will be hosted by the Smithfield Christian Church, St. Paul A.M.E. Church and the village of Smithfield,” he added.
Additional free seminars are set from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on May 20 at the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County Adena branch; 11 a.m. to noon May 21, Richmond Village Building; and 2 p.m. to3 p.m. May 21, Rayland Village Building.
“These seminars are sponsored by the fair housing programs of Steubenville and Jefferson County, as well as the Ohio Valley Fair Housing Center,” said Petrossi.
The city’s Fair Housing Practices Commission requested legislation be introduced at tonight’s City Council sunshine meeting to declare April as Fair Housing Month.
Petrossi encouraged the members of the Fair Housing Commission attend next week’s City Council regular meeting to discuss their work in the community.
