Taste of Home Cooking School set

WEIRTON – Tickets are still available for Tuesday’s Taste of Home Cooking School, to take place at the Serbian American Cultural Center.

The annual event, hosted by The Weirton Daily Times and the Herald-Star, will feature Taste of Home culinary specialist Michael Barna showcasing 10 recipes before a crowd of hundreds.

Tickets start at $10 for general admission, $20 for preferred seating and $45 for VIP tickets. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m.

A special reception for VIP ticket holders will begin at 4:30 p.m., featuring a meet-and-greet with Barna. Maggie McGinnis, inside sales manager for the newspapers, explained VIP ticket holders are asked to be at the Serbian American Cultural Center by 4:15 p.m. They then will be taken to a separate entrance for the VIP reception.

Everyone attending will receive a goody bag, including Taste of Home magazines, coupons and samples.

The Taste of Home Cooking School is sponsored this year by Weirton Medical Center, Create-A-Room and Hancock County Savings Bank, with support from M&M Hardware and Frank and Jerry Furniture and Appliances, Kroger Hollywood City Center and the Steubenville Wal-Mart.

“It’s important for Create-A-Room to be part of the community,” General Manager Mark Postlethwaite said, noting a lot of people have asked him about the Cooking School. “We know this will be a great event.

Create-A-Room is owned by Lisa and Derek Ferguson.

“The interest in the show has been overwhelming and it’s very important to us at Weirton Medical Center to be a part of such great, positive events in our community,” says Kelli McCoy WMC director of communications.

McCoy also will serve as the mistress of ceremonies for the Cooking School.

In addition to the cooking demonstration, dozens of local and national vendors will be on hand, and guests also will be able to purchase tickets for a chance to win either a Weber Genesis E-3-10 gas grill or a Hyde Park six-piece dining set.

Tickets for the drawing are $5 each of three tickets for $10. Tickets for the drawing are available at the Herald-Star office and M&M Hardware, and also will be available the night of the event.
