CAC assisting residents with gas funds

STEUBENVILLE – The Jefferson County Community Action Council is assisting eligible residents with Columbia Gas Fuel Funds until the funding is depleted.

According to CAC Operations Manager Eliza Kelley, “the Columbia Gas Fuel Fund assists customers at or below the 175 percent of federal poverty guidelines.”

“Customers may receive up to $175 for each heating season. A disconnect is required to receive assistance with this program,” said Kelley.

Office hours are 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the CAC administrative offices at 114 N. Fourth St. Home visits are available for the elderly and or disabled persons unable to travel.

“Documentation that must be presented at the time of application is proof of income for all members of the household 18 years of age or older for the past 90 days. The documentation includes pay stubs, Social Security cards, award letters or bank statements, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families verification, alimony, child support, pensions and utility allowances. Social Security cards for all household residents, birth certificates, utility bills with a disconnect notice and or vendor information are necessary,” said Kelley.

“Persons claiming zero income must provide written proof, which may include a statement from any individual who is providing financial assistance to the applicant. A statement from the Department of Jobs and Family Services is needed at the time of application for the Home Energy Assistance Program,” added Kelley.

“Applications will not be processed without necessary documentation,” noted Kelly.

Kelley said a maximum family income for four people is $37,100.
