Trashy Art contest set for the Fort Steuben Mall

STEUBENVILLE – The JB Green Team will hold its annual Trashy Art contest April 24-29 at the Fort Steuben Mall to celebrate Earth Day.

Jefferson County Education Coordinator Louise Holliday said the Trashy Art contest promotes Earth Day and educates students in kindergarten through high school, as well as teachers, parents and the public about the three Rs – reduce, reuse and recycle.

“The goal is for students to learn how something can be made from household trash. The only rule for the contest requires all art items must be created from the family trash,” explained Holliday.

“Entries should be brought to the mall’s center court area between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on April 24. The art will remain on display until April 29. And during that time anyone can vote for their favorite art object. Each vote costs a penny and all proceeds will be donated to a charitable organization,” said Holliday.

The voting will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on April 26 and 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on April 27, and the winners will be announced at 1:30 p.m. on April 27.

Holliday said the Trashy Art winners will receive Fort Steuben Mall gift cards and goody bags.
