Area man arrested following stabbing

FOLLANSBEE – A Follansbee man is in critical condition at a Pittsburgh hospital and another has been charged with malicious wounding in connection with an incident Sunday night.

David Roland Hofffman, 45, of 144 Loretta Ave., Follansbee, was arrested by the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department for allegedly stabbing his roommate, Eduardo Rosales, 35, in the torso multiple times.

According to police reports, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the two men’s home after Rosales called 911 to report Hoffman was standing over him with a knife.

Sheriff’s deputies said when they arrived, they found Rosales sitting in a stairway inside and bleeding heavily and Hoffman sitting in the living room, where they arrested him.

The victim was treated at the scene by the Brooke County Ambulance Service before being transported by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital, according to the sheriff’s department.

A motive for the assault wasn’t clear.

Hoffman also has been charged with domestic violence and obstructing, the latter because he resisted deputies’ attempts to handcuff him, according to the sheriff’s department.

He is being held in the Northern Regional Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond set in Brooke County Magistrate Court.
