Pleasant Heights fire station to close

STEUBENVILLE – The Pleasant Heights Fire Station will be closed Wednesday morning at the end of the shift.

City Manager Cathy Davison announced the closing of the fire station and the lay-off of the two youngest firefighters during her administrative report at the Tuesday night City Council meeting.

Davison said the two firefighters will be issued 14 day lay-off notices during their shifts on Wednesday and Thursday.

The closing of the fire station was agreed to during an executive city council meeting Tuesday night called to discuss the mandated recall of five laid-off firefighters.

Davison said the action announced Tuesday night, “is in light of the city’s financial conditions.”

In other action Tuesday night the council safety committee agreed to monitor pending legislation in the Ohio General Assembly aimed at outlawing traffic surveillance cameras in the state.

Sixth Ward Councilman David Lalich has proposed using traffic cameras with proper public notification in order to free up police officers.
