City manager search under way

STEUBENVILLE – Advertisements announcing the search for a new city manager are set to start appearing in local and national publications this week.

Third Ward Councilman Greg Metcalf said the deadline for manager candidate applications is July 26.

“After the deadline the council members will start the initial review process and start the telephone interview process by mid August,” said Metcalf.

He also said council will have to finalize a citizens’ review committee to participate in the search process.

The search for a new city manager started after former City Manager Cathy Davison resigned on May 13 ending a 38-month tenure.

Mayor Domenick Mucci is currently serving as acting city manager.

The charter calls for council to hire a city manager within 120 days of the vacant manager’s position.

“Once the applicant is chosen, the said applicant must be on the job within 30 days from the date he or she is hired,” states the charter.

Davison officially was hired as the city manager by a unanimous vote at the Feb. 16, 2010, City Council meeting and began her job on March 15 that year.

She started a new three-year contract in March.

According to the terms of employment authorized by council, Davison started at an annual salary of $90,000 with job performance evaluations set for Sept. 15, 2010, and then on March 15, 2012, and 2013.

Metcalf said he hopes council will bring in the final candidates by Labor Day.

“We have until Sept. 14 to choose our next city manager, said Metcalf.
