Woman arrested following trailer fire

NEW CUMBERLAND – A Hancock County woman was arrested on arson-related charges Tuesday following a trailer fire north of Weirton.

Brenda Sue Boyer, 47, no fixed address, is being charged with first-degree arson after an initial investigation into a trailer fire on Culley Court indicated she allegedly set the home ablaze.

According to Hancock County Sheriff Ralph A. Fletcher, dispatchers at Hancock County 911 received calls around 9:22 a.m. Tuesday reporting a trailer fire.

Fletcher said firefighters from Weirton, Oakland and New Cumberland, along with Weirton Area Ambulance and Rescue Squad personnel, were dispatched to Culley Court, located off of North Fork Road, where the trailer was fully engulfed and a second trailer was on fire.

Captain Dan Mastrantoni of the Weirton Fire Department stated the fire most likely started in the front of the first trailer – which was a total loss – while the other suffered severe damage.

Upon further investigation, Hancock County Deputies Chris Waide and Chuck Stanley took Boyer into custody.

“I am pleased with the response and professionalism of all departments involved,” added Fletcher.

Boyer is currently being held in the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail on a $200,000 bond.

The incident remains under investigation.
