Firm selected for pool study
WEIRTON – The Marland Heights Community Association has chosen Wheeling-based Heritage Architectural Associates to do a feasibility study for the Margaret Manson Weir Memorial Pool.
MHCA interviewed five firms, using a points system to make the selection.
“All five firms that we interviewed were excellent and it was extremely hard to choose one,” said Iris Himmelrick, association representative. “They were all in agreement that the structural integrity, as well as the historical significance, of Marland Heights Pool was in extremely good condition and in no imminent danger. They all felt that restoring the pool is a project that could be easily achieved. It will, of course, need a pump and filtration system since there isn’t one there anymore. Also, other repairs to the structure are needed, but the structural integrity has not been compromised. Once the study is complete, we will know exactly what it needs as well as what it will cost.”
The group also has a fundraiser at Bob Evans slated for July 22-28. The organization will receive 15 percent of sales on those days if customers present a special flyer, which can be obtained at Mary H. Weir Public Library, Millsop Community Center, Charnie Insurance, Marland Heights Deli and the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce.
They’re also planning another oldies dance party featuring Legend and DJ Harry Stock from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sept. 7 at Marland Heights Park. Tickets are priced at $10 and will go on sale in about a week. Refreshments will be available.
A classic car show is scheduled for Sept. 22 at Marland Heights Park.
