Community supports United Way golf event

WEIRTON – The local business community is showing its support for the 14th-annual Weirton United Way’s Ladies Golf Challenge, set to take place today at Mountaineer’s Woodview Golf Course.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the golf course, with tee time scheduled for 10 a.m.

The host sponsor for the Ladies Golf Challenge is First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union. Other major sponsors include Mainstream Physical Therapy; Fox’s Pizza Den; Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort; R.E. Saxon Jewelers; Maryland Market; Dee-Jay’s BBQ Ribs and Grille; Steel City Distributors; Wine and Beverage Merchants; and Newbrough Photo.

Hole-in-one prizes are being provided by Lyle’s Auto; Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort; and R.E. Saxon Jewelers.

United Way Executive Director Kristin Bowman-Cross said she wished to thank everyone who has stepped up to help plan the event.

Among the volunteers for Saturday at members of the Weir High School and Weirton Madonna High School golf teams.

“They’re helping the ladies with the bag drop off,” she said, explaining the students will assist in carrying golf bags from the parking lot to the registration area.

Bowman-Cross also thanked the tournament committee, Dave Gallagher, Mike Petrozzi, the Winwood family, James Banketas, Tom Durkin, Abby Nickerson, Matt Stear, Kathy Bowman and United Way 2013 Campaign Chair Don Gianni Jr.

Lunch for Saturday is being provided by Fox’s Pizza Den, with dinner from Maryland Market. Goody bags are being provided to all participants by Mainstream Physical Therapy.
