Brooke schools offer adult education
WELLSBURG – The Brooke County Board of Education will be offering a variety of adult education courses, including preparation for the exam required to obtain the equivalent of a diploma and hunter education required for a state hunting license, beginning the week of Sept. 23.
Except for the GED and hunter education courses, which are free, the courses require a $50 fee with the exception of the welding course, which requires a $100 fee.
The GED class is held at the Brooke County Public Library. All others are held at Brooke High School.
Most are nine weeks and must have at least 10 people register or they will be canceled. Pre-registration isn’t required for the hunter education class.

The following courses are on the schedule:
Adult basic education for GED preparation, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays and 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Internet and computer skills, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays.
Microsoft office, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays.
Sewing/quilting, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. Materials are required.
Crocheting/knitting, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays. Materials are required.
NCCER training, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. Materials are required.
Welding, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays.
The hunter education class will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 15-17. Permanent permits are available for ages 10 and up. Junior permits are available for 8- and 9-year-old participants. Participants 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent.
