Two arrested in city-county probe
WEIRTON – Two area residents have been arrested following a joint investigation by the Weirton Police Department and Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.
Robert Anthony Hans, 31, was arrested at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday by Weirton police and Hancock County deputies after receiving a tip he was located at a residence on Grimm Way in Weirton.
Hans was wanted out of Brooke County on two counts of petit larceny and a felony count of conspiracy to commit a felony.
Also arrested was Stephanie McUmar, a resident of Grimm Way, on charges of obstructing.
Hans currently is being held in the Northern Regional Jail on $10,000 bond.
According to information provided by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, the joint investigation began at approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when Hancock County 911 received a call Hans was at a residence on Paradise Lane, just north of the Weirton city limits.
Sgt. Mark Cowden was the first officer to arrive on scene, according to the press release, where he discovered Hans had fled the scene prior to his arrival.
Additional officers, including a K-9 unit, arrived on scene to assist in the search.
Officers continued the search while also receiving information Hans may have been spotted along Main Street in Weirton and later in Mingo Junction, but were unable to find him until receiving the call about him being at the Grimm Way residence.
