WMC Foundation holds golf event
WEIRTON – Despite the cool temperatures, Monday proved to still be a good day for golf as 25 teams gathered at Williams Country Club for the Weirton Medical Center Foundation’s annual golf tournament fundraiser.
Now in its fifth year, the event attracted golfers from throughout the Tri-State Area and beyond, according to Director of Communications Kelli McCoy.
“We had people come from Cleveland, Columbus, and Pittsburgh,” McCoy said. “This is always a day people look forward to.”
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Weirton Medical Center Foundation’s Healthy Community Grants program. McCoy explained the program has been a big help in the hospital’s ability to bring in some of the latest state-of-the-art equipment, including new diagnostic tools for their breast health programs.
Among the other services the foundation supports is a community wellness program, which goes into local schools, assisted living centers and other facilities to teach about healthy lifestyles.
The foundation also works to provide funding for nursing scholarships and medical education.
McCoy thanked the individuals and businesses from the area who sponsored the tournament.
“Anytime we have a fundraiser, we know we can count on the support of our local businesses,” McCoy said. “That means a great deal to us.”
Gold-level sponsors included WesBanco; Business Records Management; R&V Associates: Radiology Associates; and Dr. Stephen Alatis; Silver-level sponsors included Buck Consultants; Amcom/Xerox; Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC; The Weirton Daily Times and Herald-Star; LANtek; Tri-State Medical Group; Stantec Consulting; MBM Contracting; Met Life and Dave Cowden.
McCoy also thanked the staff at Williams Country Club for their assistance in putting the event together.
