Rotary 5K to be held Saturday

WEIRTON – A 5K run created by one of Weirton’s Rotary clubs is scheduled to make a return in the coming weeks.

The third-annual Run with Rotary, organized by the Rotary Club of Weirton Heights, is set for Oct. 26 on the Panhandle Trail. Registration on the day of the race will begin at 8 a.m., with the race itself to start at 9 a.m.

There is a $25 entry fee for each participant.

Participants will begin the race at the head of the Panhandle Trail, running or walking 1.55 miles inward before turning around and heading back to the start/finish line.

Among the features which sets this event apart from other 5K races is that, with the run taking place only a few days before Halloween, participants are encouraged to come in a costume.

Awards will be presented for the best male costume and best female costume in addition to other prizes.

“This event is sure to be a great time for the entire family, featuring door prizes, refreshments and much more,” Club President Jennifer Anderson stated.

For more information on the race, to register or to become a sponsor, contact Anderson at (304) 479-6592 or Amanda Mesler at (304) 914-3573.

Close to 50 area residents took part in the event last year.
