Mixed weather headed our way

STEUBENVILLE – There appears to be some disagreement about the weather our area will experience Friday through the weekend, but forecasters have a consensus that rain that will arrive later today will eventually turn into snow.

Joe Palko, a National Weather Service meteorologist in the Moon Township office, said the forecast for Friday is for rain and sleet during the day, turning over to snow at night. He said the total amount of snow our area receives will depend on when a push of colder air comes into the region. The National Weather Service is calling for snowfall from Friday into Saturday morning to total between 1 and 2 inches.

AccuWeather, meanwhile, is calling for 2 to 4 inches of snow, and The Weather Channel is predicting 1 to 3 inches of snow.

Palko said the forecast for the entire weekend is tricky because of the movement of the colder air.

Sunday will start out as snow and then turn to freezing rain before going over to all rain, Palko said.

But, once again, it all depends on how long the cold air stays around Sunday morning for the amount of snow and freezing rain, Palko said.

“It is a very difficult forecast,” Palko said.
