Robbery investigation leads to body

WEIRTON – A Weirton man has been arrested after a report of an armed robbery led police to discover a woman’s body hidden in his home.

A statement released by Weirton police Sunday states that at an unspecified time Saturday, officers responded to a report that an unidentified woman had been robbed at gunpoint, and that the “unknown suspect had also stolen her vehicle.”

Police interviewed several witnesses, and determined a possible suspect was Leslee Craig Arnold Jr., 47, of 525 Cove Road (Overbrook Towers.) Officers checked the residence for Arnold, but instead found a dead woman concealed in the home. No additional information about the victim was provided, and her name is not being released.

On Sunday, police requested assistance from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Steubenville police. Officers said they apprehended Arnold at a downtown Steubenville residence.

Arnold was taken into custody without incident, and is being held in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting extradition to West Virginia, according to the statement.
