Plea entered in Follansbee heroin death
WHEELING – A Wellsburg man has admitted in U.S. District Court to distributing heroin that caused the death of a 22-year old Follansbee man in March 2011.
U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II said Justin A. Withers, 29, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the distribution of heroin. Withers faces a prison term of 150 months. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled.
Withers and his co-defendant Curtis J. Adams, 29, were indicted by a federal grand jury last year for allegedly delivering heroin that caused the death of a Brooke County man in 2011.
According to the indictment, Adams and Withers allegedly gave the victim heroin in exchange for gold and jewelry on March 22, 2011. The case became a federal matter when the men allegedly traveled to Steubenville to purchase the heroin and then back to Brooke County, where it was distributed to the victim.
Adams pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60 months on a charge of interstate travel in aid of racketeering.
