Trio faces shoplifting charges in Dunham’s of Calcutta
CALCUTTA, Ohio – Three Hancock County residents were charged Tuesday by St. Clair Township police after employees of Dunham’s reported shoplifters in the store.
Chief Donald Hyatt said the department was called shortly after noon about shoplifters reportedly stealing .303-caliber rifle ammunition from the store.
Charged with multiple counts of theft and possession of criminal tools were Serena A. Jacobs, 21, and Gene B. Wright, 30, while Jacobs’ mother, Kimberly Lynn Jacobs, 37, was charged with complicity to theft. All three are from New Cumberland.
A description of two women a one man and their car, including the license plate number, was broadcast and three township officers began searching for the suspects.
East Liverpool Patrolman Jim Krawiec reportedly spotted a car matching the description southbound on state Route 11 near the Jackson Street bridge and initiated a stop.
Inside, he found two women and a man matching the description of the shoplifting suspects and they reportedly had a bag that had been described by store personnel as being used in the theft of the ammunition.
The large-caliber ammo taken from the store was found inside the bag, according to Hyatt, who said the vehicle was towed to the township police department and inventoried, where drug paraphernalia related to the use of heroin was found inside.
