Violence shelter director facing charge
WEIRTON Weirton Police arrested Jamie Bernardi, program director for C.H.A.N.G.E. Inc.’s Lighthouse Domestic Violence Shelter and Domestic Violence Awareness Center, for embezzling more than $10,000 on Friday, officials said.
Evidence suggests that the embezzlement had been taking place since August.
“We are working closely with the Weirton Police Department regarding the events. When allegations were brought to the attention of management, an internal investigation was conducted, and Weirton Police were notified of the findings immediately,” according to Judy Raveaux, chief executive officer of C.H.A.N.G.E. Inc.
She added she could not discuss further details because the investigation is ongoing.
According to Det. Gerard Spencer of the Weirton Police Department, Bernardi is in custody at the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville on $10,000 bond.
