Bank recognized for assisting residents

WEIRTON – The Do the Right Thing, a subcommittee of the Disability Support Group of the Brooke Hancock Family Resource Network, recognized Hancock County Savings Bank Tuesday for their efforts and compassion in serving people with disabilities above and beyond the requirements of Americans with Disabilities Act.

In 2013, Luann Decker assisted her son, Matthew, in cashing his pay check at Hancock County Savings Bank in Weirton. Matthew, who has autism, is learning the meaning of his paycheck and how it is connected to his work at his employment.

According to Do the Right Thing representatives, bank employees assist by counting out the money and placing it in his hand, just as with every other customer.

Catherine J. Ferrari, chief executive officer and president, accepted the award on behalf of her employees.

The Do the Right Thing committee is accepting nominations to recognize area businesses or individuals who go out of their way or more than the law requires to accommodate individuals with disabilities.

To nominate an individual or business, send your name, phone number, the nominee’s name and a brief reason why you would like to bring attention to that individual or business.
