Festival of Nations set for Saturday at Millsop

WEIRTON – The Festival of Nations is ready to make its return Saturday, bringing a variety of ethnic entertainment, information and food to the Millsop Community Center.

The sixth-annual event, sponsored by the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center, will get underway at 10:45 a.m. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., and admission is free.

The Festival of Nations will begin with the “Parade of Nations,” involving a processional representing many of the nationalities represented during the event.

The schedule of events for the Festival of Nations includes:

10:45 a.m. Tri-State Young Marines Color Guard

10:50 a.m. Singing of the national anthem by Sheena Chopra, followed by the Parade of Nations

10:55 a.m. Remarks by museum president Dennis Jones and Weirton Mayor George Kondik

11 a.m. Kyiv Ukrainian Dance Ensemble (Ukraine)

11:15 a.m. Yanlai Dance Academy (China)

11:30 a.m. Nandanik Dance Academy (India)

11:50 a.m. Grecian Odyssey Dancers (Greece)

12:10 p.m. Victoria Gerst

12:20 p.m. St. Joseph School

12:35 p.m. PAPAGP Group (Philippines)

Many ethnic foods and desserts will be on sale, along with items from the Weirton museum.

A gift basket drawing will be held in the afternoon, and organizers said the winner must be in attendance.

The event will conclude at 3 p.m.
