Trashy art contest set for late March

STEUBENVILLE – The JB Green Team-sponsored Trashy Art contest is set for March 27-29 at the Fort Steuben Mall.

“Last year was a great success with 221 entries from our Jefferson County schools. The students were very creative with their projects, and we are hoping all schools in the county will participate again this year. This year the money generated from the penny for each vote will go to the art teachers who participate with their students in the contest. The proceeds will be divided up and a check will be donated to the teachers for school art supplies,” explained Louise Holliday, education coordinator for the JB Green Team Jefferson County office.

“The Trashy Art contest is open to students from preschool through the 12th grade. The materials used for the Trashy Art entries must come from the family trash. And the registration must be on the project where it cannot be seen,” said Holliday.

“Entries should be brought to the Fort Steuben Mall center court between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on March 26. The entries will remain at the mall until March 30. And as usual the projects will be judged by the public who will vote with pennies. Voting in the Trashy Art contest is from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on March 27 and 28. The voting will conclude on March 29 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The winners will be announced at 1:30 p.m. on March 29,” continued Holliday.

“Each participating student will receive a certificate of participation and a goody bag. The winner will receive a $100 Fort Steuben Mall gift card and a goody bag, second place receives a $50 mall gift card and goody bag, while the third place student and honorable mention student each will receive a $25 mall gift card and goody bag,” Holliday said.

“The projects must be picked up at the mall by 6 p.m. on March 30 or they will be discarded. If you can’t pick up your project, please call our office at (740) 266-6899 and we will pick it up and deliver it to the school. The JB Green Team also is available to visit the schools to talk about the Trashy Art contest,” noted Holliday.

“Place an entry registration form on your project and send a copy of the form to our office by fax at (740) 266- 6895 or e-mail me at lholliday@jbgreenteam.org or call us at (740) -266-6899 by March 14.
