Two area men facing charges after chase

STEUBENVILLE – Two Steubenville men are facing charges in Brooke County after they allegedly broke into a business in Follansbee and stole a car before leading the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department on a chase across the Market Street Bridge on Tuesday morning.

Follansbee Police Capt. Dave Parker said Brooke County Sheriff Chuck Jackson was traveling on state Route 2 around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday when he saw two vehicles pull out of Provenzano Trucking, near the coke plant, in a reckless manner. Jackson turned on his vehicle’s emergency lights but the two vehicles continued on towards the Market Street Bridge, Parker said.

The vehicle then drove across the bridge, passing other vehicles, Parker said.

The vehicles stopped in the area of North and North Third streets and the drivers took off running.

Billy J. Cline, 33, of Apartment 809, 180 N. Fourth St. was caught by the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department in the 300 block of Court Alley. Mitchell L. Eakle II, 25, of 430 Maxwell Ave. was caught by a Steubenville Police officer in the 300 block of North Fourth Street.

Parker said Cline and Eakle face pending charges of breaking and entering and grand theft auto. They were scheduled to appear today in Steubenville Municipal Court for an extradition hearing.
