Weirton woman set to face drug charges
STEUBENVILLE – A Weirton woman was arrested Monday afternoon by Steubenville Police after she was found slumped over the counter at McDonald’s on Sunset Boulevard.
Officers said they found Deanna K. Martin, 31, of 56 Princess Drive, Weirton, passed out, apparently from drugs, and her purse was open on the counter. A crack pipe was seen inside the purse, police reported. She was taken to the Jefferson County jail, where a hypodermic needle was found in the purse, according to police.
While at the jail, a member of the county drug task force recognized Martin from a surveillance video he viewed earlier at Cashland, located about a block from McDonald’s.
Police reported Martin was seen on the video searching around for something she lost, even crawling on the floor. A worker there saw a bag of heroin on the counter next to Martin’s purse, police reported. The worker took the heroin, and it was later turned over to the drug task force, police reported.
The drug task force member couldn’t identify the woman seen in the video until he saw her at the county jail.
Martin was charged with possession of a hypodermic needle, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
