Chamber pampers ladies at event
WEIRTON – The 16th-annual Ladies Day at the Chamber was held Thursday at the Serbian-American Cultural Center by the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce.
The event included a fashion show, more than 30 vendors, goodie bags and door prizes. Anna-Kay’s Unique Fashions of Steubenville, and J. Jones Parties and Events of Weirton held a fashion show featuring both day and evening wear.
Sponsors included Mainstream Physical Therapy, First Choice America Credit Union and the Herald-Star/The Weirton Daily Times, WCDK-FM, WEIR-AM and WTOV-TV.
“I want to thank our sponsors so much,” said Chamber President Brenda Mull. “John (Kirlangitis), thanks so much for the bags. You spoil us with them.”
Mainstream Physical Therapy provided a goodie bag to each of those attending, and vendors passed out small gifts.
The event initially began as a way for chamber members to mark Administrative Professionals’ Day and was later opened to the public, according to Mull.
“It started as a special event our members could send their staff to, and businesses wanted to participate and showcase their goods and services,” said Mull. “We opened it to the public four or five years ago, and it’s been sold out ever since. We couldn’t do this without our sponsors and the businesses who make it happen or the public who finishes things off by coming and sharing the day with us.”
Mull also thanked her own staff, Amber Nest and Patty Soplinski.
“I want to thank them for all the hard work they do to pull this together,” she said.
The event theme was “Gatsby,” and event staff dressed as flappers in keeping with the theme. Each vendor booth was decorated in “Gatsby” style, and Goodwill was chosen by those in attendance as the best-decorated booth. There were 230 local women in attendance.
“Thank you so much for coming, for your suggestions and please come back next year,” said Mull.
Vendors included A Child’s Place Court-Appointed Special Advocates, American Institute of Themography, Anna-Kay’s Unique Fashions, Apollo Professional Cleaning, Bee Thin and Gifts, Chambers and James Funeral Home, Chloe’s Adornments, Country Delights, Designs by Bobbi Jo, Dove Chocolate Discoveries, Elite Casino Events, Fairfield Inn and Suites, First Choice America Federal Credit Union, First Niagara Pavilion, Goodwill, Gus’s Goodies, J.Jones Parties and Events, Mainstream Physical Therapy, Marland Heights Community Association, MedExpress, Melaleuca The Wellness Co., Nationwide Insurance, Nita Marie Originals, Ohio Valley Optimal Healthcare, Schoolhouse Collectibles, Spice It Up, Tastefully Simple, Thirty-One, Wal-Mart, Weirton Medical Center and Wine and Beverage Merchants of West Virginia.
