CHANGE unveils new kitchen

WEIRTON – C.H.A.N.G.E., Inc. has announced the opening of its new food preparation facility which will be used to provide free, hot meals for area children throughout the year.

Since the program’s inception, C.H.A.N.G.E. has rented space with the Weirton United Methodist Church and has served thousands of meals to children involved with the after school and summer meal programs.

The purchase of kitchen equipment and supplies was made possible through grants obtained from the West Virginia Office of Economic Opportunity, the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley, various private donors, and C.H.A.N.G.E.’s St. Paddy’s Fest fundraiser.

Additional support was provided by Koppers, Sherwin-Williams, Famous Supply and Ron’s Countertops.

Judy Raveaux, chief executive officer of C.H.A.N.G.E. noted, “Due to the hard work of staff, volunteers, and the generosity of these local businesses and supporters, this would have been only a dream. Now we have a place to call our own and continue to assist all children who may otherwise be denied a nutritious daily meal.”

In addition to the kitchen, CHANGE will sponsor the federally funded Summer Food Service Program this year, providing breakfast and lunch to all children up to age 18 who would like to participate.

A list of meal sites for the program will be announced at a later date.
