Foundation at WMC has a magical night

WEIRTON – It was “A Magical Night” for those gathered at Williams Country Club Saturday as the Weirton Medical Center Foundation held its annual gala fundraiser.

The evening featured dinner and a silent auction, with a variety of items donated by local residents and businesses with the goal of raising money for the foundation.

Weirton Medical Center Director of Communications Kelli McCoy thanked those in attendance, and thanked committee members Janice Hurley and Angela Shughart for all their work to organize the event.

The hospital foundation raises money each year to support its Healthy Community Grants Program, which supports activities focused on promoting health and wellness in the community.

Foundation Chairman J.J. Bernabei said in the last year, the foundation has worked with the hospital’s All About Women Center to improve the healthcare services available for local women.

Through that and other programs, Bernabei said, Weirton Medical Center continues to find new methods to take the lead in local healthcare.

“We’re going to be ahead of the curve,” Bernabei said. “Most importantly, we have the best employees in our industry, bar none.”

The evening also included a performance by Josh Knotts Extreme Illusions and Escapes, featuring Weirton native Josh Knotts and his wife, Lea, showcasing a variety of illusions for the crowd, infusing elements of comedy and audience participation.

In addition to Bernabei, officers of the Weirton Medical Center Foundation board of directors include John C. Greco, vice chair; Dr. Mitch Fuscardo, secretary; Dr. George M. Roig, treasurer; and Charles M. O’Brien, hospital president; as well as John “Doc” Bahnsen; Kristin Bowman-Cross; Steve Magnone; Dr. John Mitchell and Brenda Mull.
