Chemical devices are found outside city building
WEIRTON An investigation is ongoing after the discovery of explosive devices at the Weirton Municipal Building earlier this week.
Officers of the Weirton Police Department discovered three explosive chemical devices outside of the Weirton Municipal Building at about 11 p.m. Monday night, according to Chief Bruce Marshall.
Two of the devices were found around the base of the building, and one was found near a police cruiser in the parking lot, Marshall said.
The Weirton Police Department’s Special Response Unit defused the weapons, according to Marshall, and reported the incident to the Federal Bureau of Investigations. As of Tuesday afternoon, Weirton police were waiting for the FBI’s arrival.
“Federal agents will be following up the investigation, which will include conducting lab tests on the weapons,” Marshall said.
He declined to comment further, as the investigation is ongoing.
