Chester festival begins

Chester Fire Chief John Hissam, left, jokes with Chester Police Chief Ken Thorn at the start of the fire department’s 100th Anniversary Celebration on Tuesday. With them is Assistant Chief Todd Murray. The festival, which has rides, games, food and craft vendors and nightly entertainment, continues through Saturday. Hours are 5-11 p.m. weekdays and 1-11 p.m. Saturday. The Chester Volunteer Fire Department was chartered in 1914 and is celebrating its centennial this year. Hissam said anyone who wants to be in Saturday’s parade may register prior to the 5 p.m. start time on First Street. — Stephen Huba
