Former treasurer of softball boosters arrested

WEIRTON – Weirton Police arrested the former treasurer of the Weir High Softball Boosters for embezzlement, according to detective Gerard Spencer.

Candace Pratt, who resides at 58 Woodbridge Park, allegedly wrote checks to herself for approximately $3,500 during her time as treasurer, between January 2012 and March, officials said. She was arrested on May 12.

Spencer said when the new treasurer took on the job, he uncovered discrepancies in the financial records. That led to an investigation and Pratt’s subsequent arrest.

Pratt is scheduled to appear in Hancock County Magistrate Court at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Spencer noted the date might be changed because of a conflict with his schedule.
