Symphony in Weirton Thursday
WEIRTON – The Wheeling Symphony will be making its return to Weirton Thursday with a free community concert.
The symphony will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Weirton Event Center, with the gate opening at 6 p.m.
The event is organized each year through the efforts of the Weirton Area Community Foundation, which has coordinated the concert for 23 years in Weirton.
The Thursday concert is part of this year’s Wheeling Symphony Orchestra tour, and will feature guest vocalist Donna Groom performing with the symphony under the direction of maestro Andre Raphel.
Groom will perform contemporary songs, including “Nobody Does it Better,” “Downtown,” and “Rainy Days and Mondays,” while the symphony plays works of classic Americana along with a few selections from popular culture, all in celebration of Independence Day.
The concert will be followed by a fireworks display by Pyrotecnico. Those attending are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.
