Weir High Class of 2014 to graduate today

WEIRTON – The Weir High School Class of 2014 will hold commencement exercises at 7 p.m. today at the Carl Hamill Field House at Weir High School.

Members of the school’s 98th graduating class earning “Highest Honors” recognition include:

Morgan Mackenzie Abbott, daughter of Nancy Abbott of Weirton. She has been active in Key Club, Girls’ Athletic Association, Tri-Hi-Y, Foreign Language Club, Chem Club, Academic Games, Science Club, and National Honor Society. She has served in three state board positions for Key Club, president of Science Club, Class Treasurer, Student Council and GAA treasurer. She also lettered in cheering for four years and served as senior captain. She also lettered in track and holds the school record for shot put.

She plans to attend West Virginia Unversity, majoring in immunology and microbiology and minoring in Spanish, with plans for medical school to follow with the goal of becoming a clinical immunologist.

Morgan Leann Cassels, daughter of James and Alicia Cassels of Weirton. She has been active with the soccer team, serving as co-captain.

She plans to attend West Virginia University and major in civil engineering.

Akeem Curenten, son of Debora White of Weirton. He has played varsity football, been a member of Hi-Y, Judicial Scholars, Chem Club and the National Honors Society.

He plans to attend Marshall University to major in political science with the goal of later attending law school.

Morgan Rae Goff, daughter of Tracy Goff and Edward Goff, both of Weirton. She has been active as class president for four years, four years on Student Council, including one year as secretary, four years on the volleyball team, four years in Key Club, as well as past West Virginia District Board Division 1 lieutenant governor, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership ambassador and alumni, American Legion Auxiliary Rhododendron Girls State, three years in Chemistry Club, West Virginia Judicial Scholars representative and National Honor Society.

She plans to attend West Virginia University and major in chemistry, with the goal of later attending medical school to become a pediatric oncologist.

Alex Ryan Hannah, son of Eric and Alisa Hannah of Weirton. He plans to attend Bethany College to major in psychology, as well as play soccer, with the goal of later studying physical therapy.

Ella Jennings, daughter of Marla Misch and Burt Jennings of Weirton. She has been a five-year member of the Weir High Marching Band and was the 2013 field commander, five years in Region I Honor Band, four years in OVAC All-Star Band, the 2014 WVU Honor Band, 2013-2014 National Honor Society president, member of Key Club and Chem Club, four years running track and field and a four-year letterman in cross country.

She will attend West Virginia University, studying general courses until selecting a major, and has been accepted into the West Virginia University Mountaineer Marching Band.

Daniel Robert Mohoroski, son of Robert and Cheryl Mohoroski of Weirton. He has been a member of the Chem Club, Quiz Bowl, chaplain of Hi-Y, team captain for football letting for three years, and a member of the National Honors Society. He plans to attend West Virginia University and major in pharmacy.

Daniel Elias Morgan, son of Kraig and Robin Morgan, of New Cumberland. He has been a member of the Key Club, Foreign Language Club, Student Council treasurer and Chemistry Club. He plans to attend West Liberty University and major in art education.

Tori Sage Pierce, daughter of Frank and Sherry Pierce of Weirton. She has been a member of Tri-Hi-Y, Girls’ Athletic Association, Chem Club, Interact, and Key Club and a member of National Honor Society. She plans to attend West Virginia University, majoring in biology before attending dental school.

Morgan Lee Rice, daughter of Herbert and Lorri Rice of Weirton. She has been involved in National Honors Society, serving as vice president, Key Club, Girl’s Athletic Association, and Chem Club. She plans to attend Robert Morris University and major in biology and pre-med.

Joshua Evan Sayre, son of Kirk and Lisa Sayre of Weirton. He has been vice president of Math Club, and has been a member of Chemistry Club and the National Honors Society. He plans to attend West Virginia University to major in electrical and computer engineering.

Deben Nicole Shoup, daughter of Gregory Shoup and Kari Ashbee, both of Weirton. She has been president of Key Club, a two-year member of Student Council, member of the National Honors Society, secretary of the Class of 2014, member of Chemistry Club and participated in the 2013-2014 Judicial Scholars Program. She plans to attend Marshall University and major in biochemistry.

Emily Lynn Tomer, daughter of Betsy Tomer and John Tomer of Weirton. She has been a member of Chem Club and Key Club. She plans to attend West Virginia University and major in chemical engineering.

Brooke Turner, daughter of Jodie and Eric Mankowski of Weirton and James Turner of Morgantown. She was a two-year member of National Honors Society. She plans to attend West Virginia Universtiy and major in engineering.

Stephen Lucas White, son of Col. Norman White Jr. and Carla White of Weirton. He is an Eagle Scout and current assistant Scoutmaster, has been a WVGHA delegate, a service academy appointee, Golden Horseshoe recipient, ISEF participant, team captain for tennis, president of Academic Games, Math Club founding member, West Point Bridge Design Engineering Contest national semi-finalist, football letterman, Chemistry Club, secretary of the Foreign Language Club, captain of Quiz Bowl, National Honors Society. He plans to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study electrical engineering and computer science with plans to work in the U.S. Navy and do research on government contracting.

Noah Flanagan Woods, son of Patrick and Grace Woods of Weirton. He has been a member of the National Honors Society and Hi-Y Men’s Christian Club, a four-year letterman in track and cross country and two-year letterman in swimming. He plans to attend West Liberty University to major in nursing with the goal of being a nurse anesthetist.
